I hope all of you are having a beautiful summer. Today’s newsletter is really more like Part II of our last post, where we dove into our hormone dilemma for both men and women. The truth is that we are constantly getting exposed to chemicals in our environment that disrupt our natural hormone function. Today, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite natural products and tips for choosing the best products for you!
Key Advice for Choosing Safe Products
Use the Healthy Living App
The Healthy Living App by the Environmental Working Group is an excellent way to check the safety of all the products you currently have in your house.
Making Informed Choices
Let me be clear, this is not from fear of all “bad” products, but from a place of being able to make small, simple changes that can improve our health picture. When we minimize toxic chemicals from our lives, we decrease the overall burden on bodies, so that we can thrive, instead of just surviving.
The Impact of Toxins
Remember all of my talk about “fight or flight” vs. “rest and restore?” We feel our best when we spend most of our time in parasympathetic mode ( rest and restore). Toxin exposure, from everyday things like your body lotion, can burden your immune system, and shift your body into a sympathetic state ( flight or flight). There are plenty of things going on in this world that can create stress, and I, personally, don’t want my lotion to be one of them!
Choosing Food-Based Products
When in doubt, choose products that are good enough to eat..literally, food based products. For example, coconut oil as a natural moisturizer.
Now let’s get into some great product suggestions!
Skin Care and Beauty Products
These 2 online shops pride themselves in carrying clean beauty products. That being said, it is always the best idea to check the ingredients yourself, or through the healthy living app. In my experience you can not assume that one brand is “clean” across all of their product lines. I have seen 2 products under the same brand, and sometimes even the same product type, be completely different in their ingredient safety.
Personal Care
- Toothpaste: Dr. Bronner’s and Revitin
- Bar Soap: Kirkland Castile Soap
- Body Wash: Soap for Everyone
- Hand Soap: Soap for Everyone and I put it into these glass soap dispensers
- Shampoo: Super Leaves Shampoos and Conditioners
- Face Oil: Organic Jojoba Oil
- Deodorant: This is a really tough topic because even many of the “clean” deodorant companies use fragrance and/or seed oils in their product. Generally, unscented is going to be the cleanest. Here are some companies that score pretty well, and work!
- Primally Pure (the only one without seed oil that I have found)
- Native (this link will also give you 20% off!)
- Hume
Cleaning
- All Purpose Cleaners: Force of Nature. I add this to these amber glass spray bottles and store them in bathrooms and in the kitchen.
- Laundry Detergent: Branch Basics (this link gives you $10 off)
- Fabric Softener: No way! I just use straight up wool dryer balls 🙂
- Dish Soap: Ecover – Zero Dish Soap
Some of these links are affiliate links, but I only recommend products that I have used personally, and believe in, and hope this list makes your life easier and cleaner! If you found it helpful, stay tuned, because over the coming months, I am expanding the Full Circle Wellness Shop to be a place you can come to explore even more products that I believe in.
