Drink Well: Exploring Better Beverage Options

There was a lot of conversation around beverages this week with my clients, so, with barbeque season upon us, it seemed like a great time to talk about healthier options to that traditional can of soda. Here are a few of my top picks!

1. Zevia

Why it’s great: Zevia is a zero-calorie, naturally sweetened soda alternative that uses stevia leaf extract to provide sweetness without the calories or artificial ingredients found in traditional sodas. It comes in a variety of flavors, from classic cola, to orange and grape sodas that will make you feel like a kid again.

Health benefits: Zevia doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors. It’s also non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan!

2. Olli-Pop

Why it’s great: Olli-Pop is a sparkling tonic that combines the bubbles of soda with functional ingredients like prebiotics, botanicals, and plant fiber… up to 9 g of fiber to be exact!. It’s designed to support gut health and overall well-being while satisfying your soda cravings.

Health benefits: Olli-Pop is low in sugar (only 2-5 grams per can) and uses natural ingredients like stevia and erythritol for sweetness. It’s also free from artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and GMOs.

3. Waterloo Seltzer

Health benefits: Waterloo Seltzer is calorie-free, sugar-free, and my favorite reason is that it comes in a BPA free can! BPA is found in many plastics, in the lining of most aluminum cans, and coating receipt paper. I know, weird right? In the literature, repeated BPA exposure is linked to cardiovascular disease, and shown to increase blood pressure after just one exposure! Bravo to Waterloo for making the choice to NOT serve BPA up with their drinks!


Making small changes to your beverage choices can have a big impact on your health. By opting for alternatives like Zevia, Olli-Pop, and Waterloo Seltzer, you can enjoy the fizz and flavor of soda without the guilt. Cheers to healthier sipping!
