I had to see this quote MANY times before it reall I had to see this quote MANY times before it really began sinking in. It all makes perfect sense now.  If you were trying to grow a plant, would you keep it in the closet and pour soda on it, and expect it to flourish?  Or would you nourish it with sunlight, and clean water.  Our bodies are the same way 🤍

For most of us, we can not live a fast paced life, eat on the go, work till bed-time, think stressed out, negative thoughts, drink water from a plastic bottle, sleep 6 hours or less at night, and expect all the things to come up roses.

I am so excited to get this mint-avocado smoothie I am so excited to get this mint-avocado smoothie bowl recipe out to you all!  I adapted this recipe into more of a meal from the incredible @daniellewalker recipe for a mint chocolate milk shake.  One important tip, to get that ice cream consistency, is that either the avocados or the canned coconut milk must be frozen.  In this variation I just used a package of frozen,diced avocado from @wholefoods.  I  have also done the reverse, and blended the coconut milk ahead of time, poured it into an ice cube tray and left in the freezer until I am ready to use it.

1 can of full-fat coconut milk
1 ¼-1 ½ cups of diced, frozen avocado
1 cup of almond milk ( I used cashew here)
1 scoop of unflavored collagen protein powder. I use @vitalproteins
1 handful of raw, baby spinach
¼ cup of fresh mint leaves
¼ cup of local honey
¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract
Toppings:Pictured are raisins, chia seeds, ground flax seed, hemp seeds and raw pumpkin seeds. But let your imagination go wild! My kids usually just dump a boat load of mini chocolate chips on top!

Add all of the ingredients to a high powered blender.  We are forever fans of @vitamix products.  Blend until smooth, then divide into bowls, and add your toppings. Voila!

Working with physical therapy and coaching clients, I never under estimate the power of the basics.  Sleep. Hydration. Nourishing with Whole Foods. Address the stress. There are countless ways these simple things can either help us thrive, or contribute to dis-ease. 

It's not easy, and it will never be perfect, but you are worth it, and the people you serve and care for are banking on you living by these words.

It has taken me alot of years to recognize the imp It has taken me alot of years to recognize the importance of listening to my body.  I think it finally hit home, when I realized that staying home and resting when you are under the weather is modeling the self-care to my family and clients that I want them to give themselves. I've got a cold, and want to feel my best as soon as possible.  So here are some details on additional things I am doing today to get better quickly.

🤍Self lymphatic massage for sinus drainage. 

🤍Sipping lots of water with @goultima electrolytes and added sea salt for the minerals and cellular hydration, and to keep that lymph flowing.

🤍Nettle Leaf Tea: This stuff is loaded with minerals to support my health like magnesium. 

🤍Smoothie and broth for many reasons, but most importantly because I can pack a lot of different fruits and veggies into one blended drink.  My immune system needs nutrients to fight off the cold, and liquid nutrients are nice and easy work on my digestive system, so that my body can focus its energy on healing rather than digesting a heavy meal. 

🤍Gentle movement in small 10 minute increments : light stretching and maybe some slow flow yoga as my sinus pressure lessens later.
